The Green Hills Head Start staff has been working and preparing for the upcoming fall term.
Applications have been reviewed and the selection process completed. The newly eligible children have been enrolled and the process of health screening is underway.
Each Head Start child will receive screening for vision, hearing, and speech. Blood tests for anemia and lead poisoning are a part of the screening process as well as any needed immunizations. Children also obtain a physical and dental examination by the appropriate provider. By completing a majority of the health screening during the summer months, more time is available to obtain any necessary follow-up work prior to the beginning of classes or home visits.
Health (which includes medial and dental) is only one of the many components that comprise the Head Start Program. Head Stat children and families also receive services from Nutrition, Education, Social Services, Parent Involvement, Disabilities, Transition, and Mental Health Components.
The Green Hills Head Start Program is sponsored by North Central Missouri College in Trenton. The Head Start Central Office staff is located in offices at 205 Wet 18th Street, Trenton. Fifty-five staff members, throughout the nine-county area work directly with children and families on a day-to-day basis. The Head Start Program has had a great impacting families in the Green Hills Area since it began in1965 continually growing in its knowledge of both early childhood and in the provision of service to children and families.
