Helen C. Muller, 92, passed away, Tuesday, June 26, 2007, at the Lake Viking Health Care Center in Gallatin.

Services were held June 30 at the McWilliams Funeral Home, with visitation one hour prior to the services. Interment followed at Lick Fork Cemetery southeast of Gallatin. Memorial contributions may be made to the Gallatin United Methodist Church, Comfort Care Hospice or the Daviess County Library.

Helen was born Oct. 18, 1914 in Denver, Colo., to Samuel and Martha Boyd. Her family moved to Furley, Kan., where she spent most of her childhood and graduated from high school in Valley Center, Kan. She attended Friends University in Wichita, Kan., receiving a teaching certificate. She started her teaching career in a rural one room school house, and then taught in Wichita. Helen later received her B.S. in Education from Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville.

In December 1946 she was united in marriage to Edgar M. Muller, and in 1950 they moved back to Gallatin to farm with Edgar’s parents.

Edgar and Helen resided on their family farm southeast of Gallatin until 1970 when they moved to Gallatin. Helen was a devoted wife and mother, and educator. She resumed her teaching career in 1956, and served as a dedicated teacher for the Gallatin School District, retiring in 1979. Helen loved teaching, and her total career spanned 36 years. Even in retirement, she volunteered to help with the elementary school’s reading program.

Helen was an active member of the Gallatin United Methodist Church for over 50 years. Helen’s faith and involvement with her church were very important to her, and she dedicated countless hours of service. Whether helping with church dinners, the Ruby Circle, teaching Sunday School, or assisting with the many UMW Women’s service projects, Helen was there to volunteer where ever needed until her health made it no longer possible.

Through the years, she was also active in many organizations including D.A.R., P.E.O., Delta Kappa Gamma, and her Extension Homemaker Club. Helen served on the Daviess County Library Board for 24 years. Helen teamed up with Edgar to volunteer for the Senior Center to deliver Meals on Wheels.

Helen enjoyed reading, gardening, canning and baking. Pies were her speciality. She loved preparing wonderful family meals for the holidays.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel and Mattie Boyd and her brother, Stanley Boyd.

Helen is survived by her husband Edgar, and two daughters, Martha (Marty) and Dan Epping, Riverside, Mo.; Lynda and Dr. Jeff Johnson, Lexington, Mo.; one grandson, John Johnson, Columbia, Mo.; one granddaughter, Tonya and husband Scott Addington; five great-grandchildren, Josh, Dakota, Conner, Anthony, and Kaylee Addington, and one niece, Judy Boyd Duvanel and her husband Larry, Phoenix, Ariz.
