Warren McElwain, Chairman of Cameron Regional Medical Center’s Scholarship and Education Committee, and Joseph F. Abrutz, Jr., CRMC’s Administrator, have announced that the CRMC Board of Directors has awarded a total of $7,000 in scholarships to fourteen high school seniors graduating from eight different school districts in the four-county area. This is the eighteenth year for the Medical Center’s scholarship program.
Recipients of CRMC scholarships have made a commitment to pursuing a healthcare field of study on a full-time basis beginning this fall. Final selection of recipients was based on such criteria as high school GPA, ACT score, goals, school/community involvement, and need.
CRMC scholarship winners for 2007 from Gallatin include: $500 – Danielle Critten; Colt Bohannon and Riley Rains.
McElwain also indicated that, beginning with this year’s winners, CRMC’s Scholarship and Education Committee voted to make these scholarships renewable during the students’ undergraduate studies. Each recipient in 2007 will now be eligible for an additional $1,500 (total) over the subsequent three years after this initial award. In order to be considered for renewal, the student must maintain a 3.0 GPA or better and remain in an acceptable healthcare field of study.
Cameron Regional Medical Center received a total of 21 scholarship applications this year. Abrutz stated, “The Medical Center sponsors this program to promote careers in healthcare and in hope of bringing area students back to this region to carry out their professional lives.”
