Vicky is employed as a teacher/FSA at the Green Hills Head Start Gallatin Center. The credential renewal was awarded by the Council for Early Childhood Professional Recognition in Washington, C.D., which represents the early childhood profession.
The CDA credential is recognized nationally by the early childhood profession. The CDA program is the only major national effort to improve child care by evaluating and recognizing the skills of individuals providing care. First initiated in 1971, today there are more than 200,000 CDA credentialed childcare providers throughout all 50 states, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, and the U.S. territories of Guam and the Virgin Islands. Forty-six states plus the District of Columbia incorporate the CDA Credential into their childcare licencing regulations.
Childcare individuals from the local community assess each candidate requesting the CDA renewal. The renewal candidate is able to meet the specific needs of children and works with parents and other adults to nurture children’s physical, social, emotional and intellectual growth in a child development framework. In an age when both parents of an increasing number of children are working outside the home, finding an environment in which children will receive more than basic maintenance has grown in importance. Thus, the holder of a CDA certificate gives parents the assurance that their child’s caregiver is capable of providing competent and nurturing care.
