New postage rates, Saturday extended post office hours and a special truck route are just a few of the changes for customers that went into effect on May 14.
Effective on that date, new postage rates kicked into high gear with the price of a first class stamp raising two pennies to 41 cents each. All postage rates, including priority and express mail, increased. Customers may log on to usps.com or call 1-800-ask-usps for all the details. New postage stamps are now on sale, including two-cent make-up rate stamps.
The Gallatin Post Office will extend Saturday window hours to provide better service to its customers. Beginning May 12, the customer window opened at 8:30-11:30 a.m., giving mailers an additional hour of retail service. Stamp sales, package mailing and passport service is offered.
New mid-day truck transportation will improve service to customers who mail early in the day. Mail deposited by 12 p.m. at the Gallatin Post Office will be dispatched and arrive at the Kansas City distribution plant for earlier evening processing. Getting a jump on things by mailing early could reduce the time it takes for letters and packages to reach their final destination.
Outgoing mail, deposited by noon at the blue collection box in front of the Gallatin Post Office, or in the post office lobby, will be dispatched. Priority and express mail will be given expedited processing.
