Students from North Daviess schools recently gained the opportunity to demonstrate their public speaking and creative writing skills.
On May 4, they took part in contests sponsored by Modern Woodmen of America. Contestants shared their speeches on this year’s topic, "A Great American Leader," and their essays on "My Imaginary Invention."
Essay contest winners were Jeannette Loftin, first place; Grant Hartley, second place; and Kelsey Brown, third place. Winners were presented with trophies.

Other finalists were Kelsey Brown, Cassandra Miler, Chasity Billingsley, Kayla Jincks, and Breanna Jones. All finalists received gold award pins and the top three places were awarded trophies.
The names of all winners in both contests will be engraved on the school’s contest plaques. All contestants received certificates and ribbons.
Judges for the contest were North Daviess teachers Gregg Hartley, Julie Schluter, and Dan Weese. Brent Brown served as timer.
