Denise Ray, Gallatin R-5 sixth grade teacher, was the speaker at Gallatin R-5 graduation, held in the GHS gymnasium on May 13.

Mrs. Ray came to Gallatin from North Daviess R-3 in 1999, and this year’s senior class was the first group of sixth graders that she taught at Gallatin.

There were only a few students among the graduates that she had not had in class. During her message to the 2007 seniors, she continued to educate them about themselves. Seniors that she had not had in class had to stand and guess which of their classmates had created special, funny memories for Mrs. Ray during her first year at Gallatin.

Mrs. Ray gave each graduate a bag with three things in it … A necklace (to take up space inthe bag), a toy boat (to represent the cruise seniors are about to embark upon), and a compass to guide them.

Mrs. Ray spoke of the many memories of this year’s seniors and told why they are special to her.

Denise and her husband Stan reside in Gallatin and have three children, Whitney, Courtney and Micah.
