Boys distance relay leads GHS to sectional; girls sprint relay sets school record
Gallatin High School will send a large contingent of athletes to Saturday’s Class 1 sectional track meet in Albany after exiting district competition last weekend with several top four finishes in running and field events.
The best Bulldog showing of the day came from the boys 3200-meter relay team of Ben Adams, Mitch King, Kevin Chadwick and Kayle Hefley. The GHS quartet beat a strong Polo group in the event and took the gold with a time of 8:58.77, which was also better than the winning time from the District 8 meet held at Rock Port.
The Lady Bulldogs came away from district with a school record from a quartet of ladies each competing in several events during the day. The 400-meter relay team of Ashley Owens, Kelly Critten, Maggie Strange and Molly Lowe ran a 54.11 race to finish on the heels of King City (53.71) and establish a new GHS mark.
Top four finishers at the Class 1, District 7 meet will face top finishers from District 8 meet in Albany on Saturday. The top four finishers there will advance to the MSHSAA Class 1 Track and Field Championships May 18-19 at Lincoln University in Jefferson City.

Barker leads HDC group
Winston’s Hannah Barker was one of the top girls point producers after she won two district events and placed second in another. She advances to the sectional meet as the district champ in both the high jump (4-10) and 100-meter hurdles (17.57). Barker also placed second in the 100-meter dash (13.77).
Ryan Curtis will represent the Winston boys in sectional competition after placing second in the shot put (44-2.50).
Qualifying for sectional from Pattonsburg were Travis Lowrey, a third place finisher in the high jump (5-6), and Jeff Parton, the district runnerup in the 1600-meter run (5:01.07).
