Election results were presented by Superintendent Julie Kirby and accepted by the North Daviess Board of Education during its regular meeting held Monday, April 16, at Coffey.

The results were: Cecil McCrary: 68; Janelda Weber: 44; David lddings: 58; and Gene Morris: 42.

 

New board members Cecil McCray and David Iddings were sworn in to office by secretary Beverly Hunter. The new board was organized as follows: president – David Iddings; vice-president – Jason Lewis; secretary – Beverly Hunter; treasurer –

After returning from executive session, the board offered teaching contracts for 2007-2008 to Kim Terhune; Suzanne Slaughter; and Brennan Leeper.

During new business Ms. Kirby presented the plan for minor repairs at the elementary school for the summer 2007. Long range plans are in development through the year 2010. The board moved to the library annex for a computer presentation showing pictures of the existing condition of the roof at the elementary school. Upon return to the lunchroom, Ms. Kirby presented details about the bid from Meyer Roofing.

Commercial Roofing was scheduled to make a presentation concerning their roofing bid, but failed to appear. Ms. Kirby will get in touch with the company again.

Ms. Kirby presented a summary of career ladder activities for 2006-2007. Five teachers completed the following extra hours: parent contact 71: student tutoring 131; other student contact 256; professional development 115; other instructional improvement 97. Board Members absent were Chris Nelson and P. J. Burnett. Also present were Superintendent Julie Kirby, Board Secretary Bev Hunter and Becky Morris, Mandy Pankau, Callie Heckenbach, Cecil McCrary and Bobbie Pyles.

The board opened mowing bids and voted to award the elementary bid to Jason Ray and the high school bid to Jim Cook.

The Class of 2007 was presented by Ms. Kirby for certification: Trevor Hunter, Catherine Jones, Heather McCampbell, Amber Merritt, Meghan Roberts. and Megan Shaul. The diplomas were signed and will be awarded after the senior trip.

A survey of employee wellness was presented by Ms. Kirby. The survey suggested the district does not provide the following type of employee wellness activities/programs: health screening for the staff, stress management programs for the staff, training for the staff on conflict resolution, programs for staff physical activity/fitness, programs for the staff on healthy eating/weight management, programs for the staff on tobacco-use cessation, or asthma management.

Health insurance cost for next year has been set at $421.59 each for the employee and spouse and $316.14 for children.

A motion carried to add an additional $22 contribution to the employee cost of insurance by a vote of five in favor and one against.

Ms. Morris reported the elementary tournament net income was $2,500. Family Fun Night with a Book Fair was held.

Ms. Kirby reviewed board policies regarding conflict of interest for board members, board relationship, the role of the superintendent, and nepotism.

After returning from executive session pursuant for employee matters, the board carried a motion to have Becky Morris go on the senior trip and to have Patty Baker as the driver.
