Hay bales burned; electric cable theft attempted
Sheriff’s Office
Wally Sperry of Pattonsburg reported that three big hay bales were destroyed by fire on March 29. The bales were located at the corner of Drake Avenue and 187th Street. Walter Burnett of Coffey also reported that a large hay bale had been set on fire on 220th Street in Coffey during the early morning hours of April 1, 2007. Photos of tire tracks were taken.
Don Boswell with Farmers Electric Cooperative reported April 3 that someone had attempted to steal 300 feet of underground electrical cable from a work site located at Highway 69 and Highway C. Boswell said it appeared someone used their bulldozers to try to load the cable. The cable was cut open, with damage estimated at $2,100. Photographs were taken, and the case remains open.
Brandon Hersh, 19, Lee’s Summit, was arrested April 8 for leaving the scene of an accident, class D felony, and misdemeanor DWI. He is being held on $15,000 bond.
Daniel E. Gordon, 20, Turney, was arrested April 8 for misdemeanor resisting arrest and speeding 105 mph in a 70 mph zone. He posted $1,250 bond.
Victor Diaz Lopez, 26, Mexico City, Mexico, was arrested April 7 for speeding 99 mph in a 70 mph zone. He paid court costs and fines and was released.
Kyle Kraft, 39, Trenton, was arrested April 9 for misdemeanor DWI. He was processed and held for 12-hour detoxification.
Johnny Rainey, 33, Jamesport, was charged April 5 with misdemeanor assault third degree. A summons was issued and he was held in jail 24 hours.
County Commission
Don Ohlberg, bridge foreman, reported that they are completing a tube replacement in Benton Township and repairing the damage to a bridge floor in Lincoln Township caused by a motor grader.
Kevin Heldenbrand, sheriff, met with the commission regarding the lease-purchase of a department vehicle. The agreement was executed.
Associate Circuit Judge Brent Elliott met with the commission concerning the status of the video arraignment equipment. This project will be installed and funded by the regional jail district, not the county.
The commission spent much of the day reviewing employee health insurance. The current health care provided increased the premiums by 27.6% and quotes were received from several other providers.
Bills were audited and paid.
A five-year lease for the facility at 611 West Johnson was executed with Access II Independent Living Center.

Associate Circuit Court
Betsy Young-Jo Bonin and Sherikka T. White, both of Minnesota, were each charged April 3 with possession of controlled substance with intent to deliver, class B felony. Bonin was also charged with two counts of drug paraphernalia, class A misdemeanor. White was also charged with misdemeanor receiving stolen property. The two were already in custody, as original charges of possession of a controlled substance, class C felony, had been filed on Feb. 24. The original charges were dismissed due to the new charged being filed.
Defendants found guilty in the Associate Division of the Circuit Court of Daviess County are listed below with the offense and fine assessed. Additionally, courts costs collected for the State of Missouri amount to $66.50 for moving traffic violations and $114.50 in most criminal cases.

Reginal L. Hooks Jr., Brooklyn Center, Minn., possession of marijuana while operating motor vehicle, 30 days jail, (board bill paid by defendant) abuse and lose order; possession of paraphernalia, $150.
Christopher S. Sturdevant, Jamesport, possession of paraphernalia, $150.
Traffic Fines
The following are traffic cases which were heard in the Associate Division of the Circuit Court of Daviess County involving a plea of guilty without contest and payment by mail of the standard fine plus court costs. The total fines assessed for defendants who reside outside of Missouri was $909 for 21 tickets. The total fines assessed for defendants who reside in Missouri was $524 for 10 cases. Court costs collected for the State of Missouri amount to $56.50 for moving traffic violations. Missouri defendants, offenses and fines are listed below:

Civil Court
Consent judgments for breach of contract suits were entered for the plaintiffs in the following cases: for Erin Capital Management and against Shirley Evans; for Payroll Advance and against Heidi E. Brittain/Nolting. A breach of contract suit by Capitol Financial vs. Keith Bradley was dismissed.
A consent judgment for suit on account was entered for the plaintiff Midwestern Health and against Sandra L. Love. Suit on account cases that were dismissed were North Kansas City Hospital vs. Susan Tull; US Bank National Assoc. vs. Jason D. Holmes; and St. Luke’s Hospital vs. Sheila M. Johnson (dismissed with prejudice).
Small Claims
A default judgement was entered for the plaintiff Lyndon Sutcliffe and against Roberta C. Little. Judgment was entered for the plaintiff John Craig First and against Ronald and Joan McCully in a case tried by the court.
