GHS golfers win first meet of the season
Gallatin varsity golfers took advantage of their first appearance on their home course last Wednesday by beating a pair of visiting squads for their first meet win of the 2007 season.
The Bulldogs, led by co-runnerup performances by Andy Ward and Derrick McBroom, combined for a team score of 186 to defeat Maysville (194) and Norborne (242) in a three-team competition held at Daviess County Country Club.
"Derrick has been struggling early this season, but got back on track," said GHS boys golf coach Chris Elbert. "Andy matched his low score for the season," he added.
McBroom and Ward each shot 44, two shots off the medalist pace set by Alex Berry of Maysville. Ethan Merrigan broke 50 for Gallatin with a 47. Robert Rhoades shot 51 and Brandon Meseberg carded a 56 for the Bulldogs.
Bulldog junior varsity golfers continue to show improvement with lower scores. Nine jayvee golfers toured the course on Wednesday, with the following results: Levi Michener 51, Ross Wood 52, Terrill Wood 53, Shay Esbeck 54, Vince Wiley 55, Ryan Chadwick 55, Jason Moore 59, Alex Critten 68 and Kevin Corwin 86.
Gallatin golfers stay home on Thursday while hosting Hamilton and Lathrop. Plattsburg and Winston will also compete in a tri-meet next Tuesday at DCCC.
