With more than 1000 wrestlers in attendance from throughout the state of Missouri, Gallatin sent two wrestlers to the Hearnes Center for two days of competition last Saturday and Sunday. The wrestlers qualified by competing in District and Regional competitions over the past two weekends. The boys were placed in 16-man brackets against qualifiers from the four regional Tournaments throughout the state.

Matt, son of Mike and Trish Schieber of Hamilton, competed in the 12 and under 100 pound division. Matt had been a state qualifier the past two years, but had been unable to break into the medals until this year. Matt dominated his first three opponents en-route to the finals match, where he was set up for a rematch of his regional finals loss from a week ago. Matt was up 2-0 early with a first period takedown, but the Oak Park wrestler tied it up with a penalty point, then an escape. Matt attempted a takedown late in the second period, but his opponent was able to defend the shot well and was awarded the takedown right as time expired in the second period. Matt tried frantically to reverse his opponent in the third period, but ran out of time and suffered a close 4-2 loss.

Bryton Bowles, son of Brad and Tammy Bowles, Bethany, also earned the trip to Columbia. Bryton, wrestling in the 12 and under 110 pound class was unable to get in the medal rounds, but wrestled very well in both his matches.

Three wrestlers qualified for Regionals, but were unable to secure a spot in the top four in order to advance on to state. Gallatin wrestlers, Brandon Ness, Chad Ness, and Bradley Rhoades had very successful 2007 campaigns, with the heartbreaker going to Chad who lost in triple overtime to miss the right to advance to state.

Another wrestler from Gallatin, Colt Faragher, made the trip to District competition, but did not earn a berth to the Regional tournament. Other wrestlers competing for Gallatin throughout the season, were Bailey Singer, Zack Lollar, and Hunter McCampbell.
