Gallatin golf season opens against GRC best South Harrison

Gallatin’s spring golf season got off to a wet and windy start on Tuesday as the Bulldogs opened their 2007 campaign in Bethany against the South Harrison Bulldogs.

South Harrison, the two-time defending Grand River Conference champ, took an easy victory by a 168 to 198 margin.

"Our first meet of the year was played in terrible conditions <197> cold, windy and raining," said GHS golf coach Chris Elbert. "On our varsity team, Ethan (Merrigan) and Brandon (Meseberg) played fairly close to their averages, and everyone else struggled," he added.

Meseberg led Gallatin with a 47. Merrigan followed closely with a 48. Other GHS varsity scores were: Andy Ward 51, Derrick McBroom 52 and Robert Rhoades 61.

Terrill Wood led Gallatin junior varsity efforts with a 56, followed by Ross Wood 57, Alex Critten 63, Shay Esbeck 67 and Vince Wiley 67.

Tucker Perkins, the defending Class 2 individual champion, was the varsity medalist with a round of 39. Zach Kastelic shot 40 for the SHHS Bulldogs.

Gallatin golfers travel to Maysville tomorrow (Thursday) and head to Albany next Monday.

Other members of the 2007 Gallatin golf team are: Ryan Chadwick, Matt Pottorff, Levi Michener, Kevin Corwin, Jon Youd, Jason Moore and Bryce Carder.
