The results of a driver’s license checkpoint conducted in Gallatin was reported by Galla- tin Police Chief Mark Richards to city aldermen during the March 12th meeting at city hall.
The checkpoint was performed on March 8th at the intersection of West Richardson and Brown Streets.
Officers also conducted a saturation of the area in which they increased enforcement of traffic laws. As a result of this enforcement action no one under the age of 21 was observed violating any traffic or licensing laws.
A total of 54 vehicles were checked during the five hour enforcement and 12 summonses were issued as follows: 6 No Seatbelt; 1 Stop Sign; 1 No Insurance; 4 Speeding.
Police Chief Richards also reported on activity from Feb. 26 to March 12: 1 Assault; 1 Harassment; 5 Speeding; 7 No Seatbelt Violations; 1 Fail to Provide Financial Responsibility; 1 Passing on the Right ( Shoulder of Roadway); 2 Fail to Stop at a Stop Sign.
There are nine dogs in the pound. (These numbers include the March 8 vehicle check).
In other city business, City Administrator Johnson will accept banner orders until March 16. A second order will be placed in 2-3 months.
Discussion was held on nuisance violations. Mr. Johnson commented that Green Hills will provide a list in the next few weeks of recommended homes for demolition.
Several park issues were discussed such as the skateboard park, walking trail, pond and R.V. hookup spots.
City Administrator Johnson discussed the MPUA Board meeting he attended last week. He discussed some concerns of the city owned cemeteries.
Mr. Johnson informed the Board that the grader will be going into the shop in the next few days for some repairs.
During comments by aldermen, J.D. Dowell had a complaint about a fence around Danny Sloan’s home not being put back after the sewer project was completed. City Administrator Johnson will check into this matter.
Mayor Ballew informed the Board that a proclamation for Motorcycle Awareness Month will be coming up in April.
Bills totalling in the amount of $180,724.53 were approved for payment. Discussion was held on the financial statement.
Dowell made a motion to enter into closed session pursuant to legal actions and litigation and hiring, firing, disciplining or promoting employees.
Comments were made about high utility bills.
