With the unusual spring temperatures it makes me hope that maybe spring will be coming soon. Along with nicer temperatures and long awaited spring bulbs sticking their heads out of the ground, comes yard clean up, flower bed raking, and a need for gravel on the driveway.
I was in the city last week with my daughter Brandy, and a very nice lady approached me with a giggle. I talked to her for a few minutes, when she asked, do you live in the country?
Bewildered, and with pride, I said I lived in a small town in northwest Missouri, and why did she ask? She said that my vehicle was really muddy and you just don’t see too much of that in Johnson County, Kan.
She thought it was kind of neat to see.
Much to my embarrassment I came home and gave my car a good cleaning both inside and out. Needless to say, it didn’t last over a day, but I now realize that wearing that good old northwest Missouri dirt on your car should be a badge of honor and not embarrassment.
It’s not everybody that can live in such a great community that you can experience rich farm land and small town living at the same time.
We don’t have to experience many traffic jams, lane changes, road construction, missing right exits, and constant traffic noise. We don’t even have to wait for the light to turn green, only stop and wait for our time to cross our main intersection in town.
One can’t but love our community and town. What a great place to raise our children, stay in close touch with lifelong friends, and almost always know or have heard of everyone’s name in town.
Folks, it don’t get any better than this. I’m grateful to live here and proud to serve as your mayor.
Next time I go to the city, you can rest assured that there will be a little northwest Missouri mud somewhere on my car. Besides, it’s always easier to find in the parking lot.
And just maybe someone will ask me where I live so that I can proudly tell them about Gallatin and all that it has to offer.
Until next time…
