A new scholarship program has recently been announced by Dr. Michael Nietzel, president of Missouri State University at Springfield.

This new program, the Missouri State Promise Scholarship, is designed to help the neediest of Missouri’s students by providing an award that when combined with other types of gift aid the student may receive, will cover the cost of tuition and fees, approximately $6,000, for 30 credit hours in a typical year and an $800 per year book allowance.
This scholarship will be offered for the first time for students who begin at Missouri State University during the fall 2007 semester. To qualify, entering freshmen must:
* Be Missouri residents;
* Meet admission requirements;
* Apply for admission by March 1;
* Submit the FAFSA by March 31; and
* Come from a family with a total household income at or below the federal poverty level. (Free or reduced lunch recipients qualify).
No special application is required. Eligible students will be identified based on information from the FAFSA. Entering freshmen may renew the scholarship for three years beyond their freshman year (i.e. four years total). The scholarship will be available also to Missouri community college transfer students with an associate degree.
