County Commission

James Lewis, bridge supervisor, met with the commission regarding ongoing repairs and culvert replacements.

Duke Allen, realtor, contacted the commission regarding the status of CART road #387, Elmwood Avenue. It was determined that it is a public road and the township receives CART gravel for it.

Lowell Perkins, Lock Springs, contacted the commission concerning the Lock Springs road in Harrison Township.

Jason Helton, Premium Standard Farms, met with the commission reporting on plans and operations in the county.

John Anthuis, Liberty Township, met with the commission regarding SB 364 proposed in the state legislature.

The commission discussed the proposal from Lake Viking Care Center regarding the adjustment of the lease payments while offsetting the costs of the installation of a sprinkler system. The commission will make adjustments to that proposal.

Keith Sutton, Washington Township, met with the commission regarding SB 364, urging the commission to support the pending legislation.

Dave Weldon, Harrison Township met with the commission regarding the condition of a road in that township leading to Lock Springs.

Bids were opened for counter/work stations and floor coverings for offices. Extreme Floors of Cameron Inc. was the low bidder for floor covering in the prosecuting attorney’s office. Country Heritage was the lowest bid for a counter in the Associate Court office. The remainder of the bids were taken under advisement.

Steve Holcomb met with the commission regarding stripping and waxing the recorder’s office.

Chuck Weldon, Harrison Township, met with the commission regarding the condition of the road to Lock Springs. The maintenance of the road is the responsibility of the township.

Gene Schweizer met with the commission regarding the school district boundary line between North Daviess and Gallatin schools. No decisions were made.

Annie Gibson, prosecuting attorney, met with the commission regarding the carpeting in her office. She will personally oversee that project. They also discussed the school district boundary of Gallatin and North Daviess schools.

Cheryl Alexander, Daviess County Health Department, met with the commission regarding adding a furnace and air conditioner unit to their building at the expense of the Health Department.

Sheriff’s Office

Orville Newberry III, 18, Gallatin, was charged March 2 with sexual assault, class C felony. Bond was set at $40,000.

Dennis A. Swearingin, Coffey, was arrested March 1 for operating a vehicle without valid license, class D felony, and failure to register, class B misdemeanor.

Crecenio Saucedo, 32, Des Moines, Iowa, was arrested March 5 for misdemeanor no valid license and speeding. He posted $500 bond.

The following are traffic cases which were heard in the Associate Division of the Circuit Court of Daviess County involving a plea of guilty without contest and payment by mail of the standard fine plus court costs. The total fines assessed for defendants who reside outside of Missouri was $681.50 for 9 tickets. The total fines assessed for defendants who reside in Missouri was $1,416.50 for 15 cases. Court costs collected for the State of Missouri amount to $56.50 for moving traffic violations. Missouri defendants, offenses and fines are listed below:

Failure to drive on right half of road amended by prosecuting attorney to defective brakes: Angela M. Moody, Smithville, $200.

Civil Court

The following cases were dismissed without prejudice: North Star Capital vs. Mike T. Fisher, breach of contract; Midland Funding vs. Amanda Shubert, suit on account.

Default judgments were entered for the plaintiffs in the following cases: Christopher Hiley vs. John Buckley d/b/a Hi Boy Enter; City of Gallatin vs. Joseph and Joyce Flanders; City of Gallatin vs. Kathy Chadwick; City of Gallatin vs. Steven Brent Brown; Landes Oil Inc. vs. Ed Bowman.

The following cases were dismissed: City of Gallatin vs. Dwight Redman; City of Gallatin vs. Bob Adkison; City of Gallatin vs. Tonda Loucks.

In City of Gallatin vs. Dudley Brandom, the court found in favor of the City of Gallatin.

An full order of protection was entered March 2, 2007, for Angel Hobson of Kansas City against Brandon Walker of Lee’s Summit.
