Gallatin FFA members showed off their “Blue Jackets, Gold Standards” as they lived up to the theme while celebrating National FFA Week. FFA Week began with FFA Sunday and a trip to the First Baptist Church of Gallatin.
FFA members participated in spirit days throughout the week including: Monday, Cowboy Day; Tuesday, FFA Shirt Day; Wednesday, FFA Jacket Day; Thursday, Blue and Gold Day; and Friday, Farmer Day.
With school rescheduled for Monday, Business Appreciation Day was split between Monday and Wednesday with FFA officers distributing donuts and calendars on both days.
On Tuesday, FFA officers took 5th and 6th grade students to an agribusiness field trip in Trenton where they visited Barnes Greenhouses and Popcorn World.
Officers conducted an eighth grade recruitment informational meeting and pizza party on Wednesday.
Also, over 40 members participated in the annual Program of Activities (POA) committee meeting. The POA, which serves as a road map for the chapter year, was evaluated and updated to fit current and future chapter needs.
Teachers and staff members were honored at Gallatin FFA with an appreciation luncheon on Friday.
The menu included pork loin, donated by Premium Standard Farms of Princeton, cheesy potato casserole, green beans, appetizers, and desserts.
The week concluded with Barnyard Day. All elementary students enjoyed a trip to the “farm” in the transformed Ag shop.
Over 20 members gave demonstrations on livestock, farm equipment, and ATV and lawnmower safety. T
erry Implement and Gallatin Truck and Tractor supplied machinery for the event. Special guest speakers included Conservation Agents Alan Bradford, from Daviess County, Mitch Hoover, from Clinton County, and Tammy Pierson, from Ray County, who spoke on gun safety.
Also, Keith Sutton, Daviess County Farm Bureau President, gave demonstrations on grain bin safety and chemical look alike safety. Each elementary student received a coloring contest page which will be turned in and judged this week.  Gallatin FFA sponsors are Jamie Rogers and Chris Henderson.
