The Gallatin Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution held its annual Presidents Tea on Wednesday, Feb. 21, in the fellowship hall of Gallatin First Baptist Church.
Beverly Ward welcomed the Good Citizens, American History Essay winners, special award winners, teachers, principals, counselors, teachers, parents, grandparents and Gallatin Chapter members.
The invocation was given by Chapter Chaplain Lucille Bruce, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and the singing of The Star Spangled Banner.
Nancy Terry, Chapter Chairman of American History Essay, presented the winners. They each read their essay and were then presented a certificate, bronze medal, gifts and a monetary award. The winners were: fifth grade, Garrett Hartley, North Daviess; sixth grade, Derrick Lin, Gallatin R-5; seventh grade, Andrew Delarber, North Daviess; and eighth grade, Kelsey Brown, North Daviess.
Mrs. Mary Lee Ellis, Chapter Chairman for Good Citizens presented the winners. All five schools in the county participated. Each winner was introduced and they told of their future plans. Each one was presented the Good Citizen pin, certificate, gift and a monetary award. Mrs. Ellis congratulated each on their achievements throughout their school years. The winners were Catherine Jones, North Daviess; DeLinda Huff, Pattonsburg; Bruce Sweet, Ti-County; Blaine Martin, Winston; and Kelsha Bundy, Gallatin R-5.
Mrs. Ann Schweizer presented two special awards given by the Gallatin Chapter. The "Mary Grace Weldon Award," given to a junior high music student was presented to Tyler Avriette, Gallatin R-5, for his outstanding work. Gene Edwards, Gallatin R-5 music teacher told of Tyler’s accomplishments. Mrs. Schweizer presented the Opal Richardson award to Derrick Lin, sixth grader from Gallatin R-5. They were presented monetary awards, certificates and a gift.
Mrs. Ward thanked everyone for attending this special event and invited all to have refreshments, served from a beautifully decorated patriotic tea table.
