This grant will provide funding for the library to purchase furniture, equipment, supplies, library materials, and additional resources to create or recreate a dedicated teen area in the library.
After attending several workshops specifically targeting teen services, Daviess County Library decided it was time to update the current teen space in the library. Following the grant guidelines, an advisory council was established in October. With their advice and input, a grant was submitted to the State Library last fall. The purpose of the grant is to increase teen usage in the library by making the current 388 square feet area more teen-friendly with comfortable furniture, such as booth seating, sofa and chair, table and bar stools, and ottomans. Accessories such as posters, clock, rugs, bulletin board and lamps will compliment the area.
To accommodate the tech savvy teens, the library is adding wireless laptops, docking stations for listening devices, and broadcasting equipment for teen pod casting on the library’s web page. New shelving and displays are being ordered to hold the new collection of graphic novels and teen magazines that the teen advisory council recommended.
The library staff and teen council are planning an open house after the project is complete.
