Sheriff’s Office

An Excelsior Springs man was arrested Feb. 10 after leading law enforcement officials on a high speed chase which began in Altamont and ended on Highway 36 east of Hamilton.

Daviess County Deputy Jason Sackrey had been dispatched to Altamont in response to reports of a white male trying to get into houses there. Upon the deputy’s arrival, the suspect, Gerald L. Ervin Jr., age 43, resisted arrest. When Reserve Deputy Bridgeman arrived to assist, Ervin began running and entered a truck parked at Bing’s Convenience Store.

Ervin drove the truck out of the parking lot, narrowly missing the pursuing deputy, and turned east on Highway 6. The officers began pursuing the suspect, who was traveling sometimes as fast as 90-100 mph and sometimes as slow as 50 mph. Ervin turned south on Highway CC, and continued south on CC through Hamilton. He turned east on Highway 36, continued to Highway MM, and then pulled over and was taken into custody by officers from the Caldwell County Sheriff’s Department, the Livingston County Sheriff’s Department and the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Ervin was charged with assault of a law enforcement officer and resisting arrest, both felonies, as well as speeding, careless and imprudent driving, and operating a vehicle without financial responsibility, misdemeanors. He is being held on $43,175 bond.

Three Des Moines men were arrested in a traffic stop Feb. 8 on I-35. Terrance L. Daughtery, 26, Damien Jackson, 25, and Demarkus D. Simon, 28, were arrested for possession of controlled substance with intent to deliver, class B felony, and possession of marijuana, class A misdemeanor. They are each being held on $50,000 bond. Simon was also charged with no valid license and speeding. Their BMW was stopped for speeding on northbound I-35. Troopers searched the vehicle with consent and found two ounces of cocaine.

Elisa Bonjour, 21, Belton, was charged Feb. 11 with DWI, class A misdemeanor. She posted $2,000 bond.

Andrea Vestal, 26, Braymer was charged Feb. 10 with failure to appear on a class C felony charge of passing bad checks. She is being held on $300 bond.

Trevor S. Laforce, 22, Lake Geneva, Wis., was arrested Feb. 8 for misdemeanor no valid license. He posted $500 bond.

Courthouse closed Monday

County Commission

James Lewis, bridge supervisor, met with the commission reporting that they are receiving a large delivery of metal culverts this week to be installed when the weather permits.

Bills were audited and paid.

Cameron Regional Medical Center was contacted regarding a prisoner’s invoice. No invoice was received, instead health insurance claim forms were sent to the county.

Tom Hudspeth and Steve Elfrink, Lake Viking Care Center, met with the commission regarding the lease agreement with the county. At this time, the census is down at the center. This may be attributed to the proximity to a hospital, the age of the facility and other factors. A sprinkler system will soon be added to the facility at the cost of the lessor. There was also a discussion regarding the purchase of a generator. An amendment to the lease agreement will be considered.

The commission had the sewer line inspected with a camera and other special equipment, finding that the sewer line on the north side of the courthouse has collapsed under the transformer. Zac Johnson and Steve Reed, City of Gallatin, met with the commission regarding resolution to this problem.

Franklin Archer, Union Township, met with the commission regarding his 2006 tax assessment. The matter was taken under advisement.

These are the approved minutes of Feb. 5, 2007. All commissioners were present.

Associate Circuit Court

Richard W. Welch, Gallatin, was charged Feb. 8 with one count of non-support, class D felony.
