Each year, a portion of the funds raised from the Missouri State Fair’s sale of champion livestock is set aside to support students beginning agriculture curriculums at Missouri institutions of higher learning. 4-H and FFA scholarship candidates were evaluated in a variety of areas including their Missouri State Fair participation, grade point average, leadership roles, and community involvement. One $2,500 “Supreme Scholarship” and twenty-five $1,000 scholarships were awarded.Recipients were honored during the 62nd annual Missouri Association of Fairs and Festivals convention, held recently at Lake of the Ozarks. The 2007 Sale of Champions and “Youth in Agriculture Day” will take place on Aug. 18, during the Missouri State Fair in Sedalia, Aug. 9-19.
