George Mikes, 68, Cameron, passed away Jan. 19, 2007 at a Liberty, Mo., hospital.

George was born May 24, 1938 in Pattonsburg, Mo., the son of George Dewey and Nettie Mae Bell Mikes.
On March 28, 1965 he married Suzanne Griffith at Bethany, Mo., and moved to Cameron in 1966. To this union of 41 years, two children were born, Mark Alan and Amy Beth.
He graduated 1956 from Pattonsburg High School and served in the army reserves immediately after graduation.
George was a heavy equipment operator, and a member of the Operating Engineers Local 101. He retired on Sept. 30, 1998, after operating heavy equipment for 35 years. George was very proud of his union. He had also served in the Army Reserves.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother-in-law, Ronnie Watson.
Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Suzanne, of the home; son and his wife, Mark and Leisa Mikes, Forney, Tex.; two daughters and their husbands, Amy and Sam DiSalvo, Long Beach, Calif., and Cathy and Alan Maddox, Gallatin, Mo.; one sister, Judy Watson, Gallatin, Mo.; granddaughters, Shelly Renee Taul and Misty Dawn Rogers; grandsons, Tyler Wesley  and Zachary Alan  Mikes; several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Jan. 23, at the Roberson Funeral Home, Pattonsburg, Mo., with Rev. Ron Ratliff officiating. Burial was in Coffey Cemetery, Coffey, Mo.
