Bulldog freshman Levi Michener stayed perfect on the season, and Gallatin brought home four top-four finishes from Saturday’s Lathrop Wrestling Tournament.

Michener, wrestling at the 103-pound weight class, ran his season record to 20-0 after sweeping all four matches Saturday for a first place finish. Michener stacks up as one of the favorites for this Saturday’s Grand River Conference Tournament to be held at South Harrison High School.

"This tournament will be one of the closest conference races in recent years, with Polo and Albany both being tough and having close to full squads," said GHS head wrestling coach Phillip Limb. "I really think that it is going to come down to Polo and us," he added. "I think it will be close, and all of our kids are going to have to perform well. We have been waiting for this all year, and the kids want to bring home the first GRC wrestling championship in school history."

In addition to Michener, Gallatin placed four other wrestlers in the top four at Lathrop.

Terrill Wood won one of three matches to finish fourth in the 112-pound class, and up his season record to 10-9.

Dale Curtis, 15-8 on the season, won three of four matches Saturday to finish second in the 152-pound class. Riley Rains, 8-1, won four times in five matches to finish second in the 160-pound weight class.

Joe Lagodny finished 2-2 on Saturday but did not place in the 285-pound class. Bulldog winners of at least one match were Nathan Gann (119), Matt Atkinson (130), Kyle Croy (135), Billy Kerns (171) and Jordan Phelps (215).

Cody Selby, 12-3 in the 140-pound class, was idle on Saturday, along with Ryan Hicks, 10-0 at 189 pounds; Bradley Jones (215) and Logan Corwin (285).

In dual action last Thursday, Gallatin received individual victories from Rains, Wood, Gann, Curtis and Phelps, but lost the team total to Lathrop, 33-42.

Gallatin fell to Brookfield, 70-6, in dual action Tuesday night. Michener was the lone winner for Gallatin. He won a 9-6 decision over Marshall Mears, one of the top-ranked Class 1 wrestlers in the 103-pound division.
