Funeral services for Ilene Summers were held at 1 p.m. today (Wednesday) Jan. 10, at the Spickard Christian Church. Burial was at Half Rock Cemetery, Half Rock. Memorials may be made to the church.

Ilene Summers, 90, Trenton, died Sunday, Jan. 7, 2007, at Wright Memorial Hospital, Trenton.

Mrs. Summers was born Sept. 7, 1916, at the family home southeast of Spickard the daughter of James Frank and Mattie Riggs Mitchell. She attended Myersville School and graduated from Spickard High School in 1934. She took teacher’s examination to earn a third grade teacher’s certificate and attended Northeast State Teachers College, now Truman University, at Kirksville.

Mrs. Summers taught three years in rural school of Mercer and Grundy Counties.

On Nov. 12, 1938, she married J.H. (Jack) Summers at Trenton. He died on Dec. 30, 1994. They were farmers and most of their married lives were spent on a farm near Half Rock. They moved to Spickard in 1982, due to failing health.

Mrs. Summers was a member of Half Rock Christian Church and then transferred her membership to the Spickard Christian Church.

Mrs. Summers was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Enola McCulley and husband Albert, and an infant great-granddaughter, Mindy Jo Hague.

Survivors include two daughters Barbara Hague, Spickard, and Shirley Berry, Trenton.; one son, Robert Summers, Harris; five grandchildren; two step grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
