Bulldogs double up on Panthers in 2007 opener
Gallatin R-5 varsity basketball teams opened the 2007 portion of their schedule in dominating fashion Tuesday night with double digit wins over visiting Pattonsburg.
The Lady Bulldogs cruised to a 70-20 victory over the Lady Panthers. The Bulldog boys downed the PHS boys, 69-30, in the nightcap.
The Lady Bulldogs laid the foundation for a victory in the first half with pressure defense and fast break layups. Gallatin led, 4-2, after three minutes but took a 17-2 advantage with a quick burst that carried them to the first quarter horn.
Ashley Owens led Gallatin with 14 points while dishing out three assists and registering a pair of steals. Kelsha Bundy and Wren Tolen turned in identical numbers for the Lady Bulldogs. Both scored 12 points to go with nine rebounds and four steals.
Courtney Ray totaled seven points to go with four assists and three steals. Alex Burge scored six points and Casey Sweatman added five points. Ayrica Batson scored four points and pulled down five rebounds for the winners.
Gallatin’s boys followed much the same game plan, jumping out to leads of 19-7 in the first quarter and 40-14 at the half.
Nic Burrell led GHS scorers with 18 points. Andrew Adkison totaled 11. Andy Ward and Brett Wilkinson each pumped in eight points, while Kevin Turley chipped in seven.
Travis Lowrey led Pattonsburg with seven points.
Gallatin teams open Grand River Conference play at home on Friday when they host the Worth County Tigers. Jayvee action begins at 5 p.m.
