I’m a writer in Kansas City working on a book about a tornado that struck Topeka, KS, on June 8th, 1966.
I’m trying to track down a survivor of the storm who supposedly was from Gallatin. He was a young man, perhaps 18-20, and was working at a Vickers service station at the corner of 6th Street and Branner Avenue on the evening of June 8th.
He and a co-worker, Clarance Gitner, fled as the tornado approached and sought cover along a nearby creekbed. Both were lifted off the ground and battered by the storm but survived with minor wounds. This young man apparently had a sister who lived in Topeka.
If anyone knows his name or whereabouts, I’d greatly appreciate it if you could let me know.
Thank you very much.
