Funeral services for Audree Alcom were held Monday, Nov. 27, at Roberson-Polley Chapel, Stanberry. Burial was at High Ridge Cemetery, Stanberry. Memorial contributions may be made to Pine View Manor Auxiliary.
Audree Helen Alcorn, 97, Stanberry, died Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2006, at Pine View Manor in Stanberry.
Mrs. Brown was born on Aug. 12, 1909, the daughter of Frank and Maude Brown of Gilman City. She had one brother, Dean. In 1945, she married Bert Alcorn of St. Joseph. They were in the restaurant business for approximately 30 years. The restaurants included the Corner Café in King City; Cozy Coffee Shop, Midway Café and the A & B Café, all in Stanberry; and Wabash Café in Kansas City.
She was a 1925 graduate of Gilman City High School. After her graduation, the family moved to Burlington, where she enrolled in a post-graduate course and received a second diploma from Burlington High School.
The Browns later returned to Gilman City, and in 1930, she married Vernon Brown of Jamesport.
After Vernon’s death in 1937, Mrs. Brown and her daughter lived with Audree’s parents in Gentry. In 1939, the family moved to Stanberry, where they owned and operated Brown’s Café.
After his death in 1974, Mrs. Brown lived with and cared for her mother in Stanberry. She was a member of the Fidelis, M.I., T.L., and Sunshine Clubs; Stanberry Business Women; a 50-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star; and the First Christian Church in Stanberry.
Survivors include one daughter, Beverly Ballard of Stanberry; one stepdaughter, Marie Karguth, Hesperia, Calif.; one stepson, Bob Alcorn, St. Joseph; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
