Gallatin’s Lady Bulldogs, featuring a cast of five new starters, opened the 2006-07 season at home Tuesday night with a 47-41 victory over a veteran East Buchanan lineup.

The Lady Bulldogs, who finished 20-9 a season ago, jumped out to an early lead of 9-2, only to see East Buchanan close to 19-17 at the break. Gallatin sprinted to a 34-24 lead in the third quarter, and built a bigger cushion with points off two straight EB turnovers to begin the fourth period.

Sophomore guard Courtney Ray cashed in 24 points, including a three-pointer to start the game. Senior Kelsha Bundy contributed seven points and seven rebounds for Gallatin. Sophomore Wren Tolen came off the bench early and chipped in six points and five boards.

Senior forward Ayrica Batson added four points to go with eight rebounds and three steals. Sophomore forward Tye Humphrey added three points and freshman point guard Ashley Owens rounded out GHS scoring with a bucket.

The Lady Bulldogs tip off the Gallatin Invitational next Tuesday night at 7 p.m. against Newtown-Harris. Gallatin’s boys, fresh from the Class 1 football playoffs, take on Gilman City at 8:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
