Flu vaccine has arrived at the Daviess County Health Department and a Flu Clinic is scheduled between 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. for our high-risk Daviess County residents on Thursday, Nov. 9, while supplies last.
Please bring your Medicare or Medicaid Cards for billing purposes if applicable.
Vaccine is also available for ages four years and up for Daviess County residents. Vaccines For Children Flu Vaccine is available to the uninsured, Medicaid, Alaskan Native or American Indian.
A $15 donation is suggested to help cover costs.
We have had many questions concerning the flu vaccine and I would like to clarify how we receive our vaccine. We placed an order for 800 doses of vaccine on Feb. 6, 2006, for our county. Every year the vaccine is ordered at this time. We have only three distributors in the United States to choose from and every year it is a gamble which one will get their vaccine first. We call or track our vaccine on line daily with the distributor.
It is unfortunate that the health departments have to wait while big companies can get their shipment. This has been a focus of concern and discussion between all health administrators and our superiors at the state level with hopes to eliminate this problem in the future.
We did receive a small shipment the last of October for our home bound and nursing home patients. We received another partial shipment this week and we are being told the rest will come sometime next week.
When we receive more vaccine we plan to go to each community to do flu clinics to better serve our residents in this county. We will advertise these clinics when we know more. We also plan to do another clinic here in Gallatin with extended hours to better serve the working community.
Please call the health department with any questions at 660-663-2414.
