Funeral services for Robert Whiteaker were held Thursday at Silk Hope Baptist Church. Arrangements were by Carter Funeral Home Bryan Chapel. Burial was at Hillcrest Abbey West. Robert (Bob) L. Whiteaker, 60, died Monday, Sept. 18, 2006, at home under the care of Hospice Savannah, Ga.
Mr. Whiteaker lived in Savannah the past 17 years.
He was an Army veteran serving in Vietnam, where he received a Purple Heart. He retired from the Coast Guard after 20 years of service and then worked with Lockheed/DS2 as an aircraft electrician.
He was a member of Silk Hope Baptist Church and the Young Men’s Sunday School Class. He was also a member of the Military Order of the Purple Heart Post 596 and the American Legion Post 184.
Survivors include his wife, Teresa Kersey Whitaker of Savannah, Ga.; one daughter, Tammy Padilla of Chicago; stepsons, Jason Kersey and Stacy Kersey, both of Savannah, Ga.; one brother, E.W. Whiteaker of Ocala, Fla.; one sister, Edris White of Gallatin; and five grandchildren.
