Exactly three days after winning the primary election in August, I went to visit with Pam Howard regarding future plans to follow the outcome of the general election in November. I told Ms. Howard at that time that should I win the election in November I would like nothing more than for her to remain working in the office as the deputy clerk. Her response was that she didn’t know for sure what her future plans might be, but she would have to wait until after the election. I did not take this answer to be a no.
I did not believe at that time, that Ms. Howard told me she would not be remaining in the office if I won the election, but rather that she was undecided. We have never discussed this any further, but I had certainly hoped that she was considering staying in the office as this would be the most logical arrangement for her, for the winner of the election, and certainly for the people of Daviess County. Her name was mentioned in my ad in the Pony Express on Oct. 31 as I thought it was only fair for the voters of Daviess County to know that the position was there for her and I also did not believe that she had rejected my offer. I apologize to Ms. Howard if this matter was misunderstood. For those people who know me, I believe you know that my character has never been anything but that of truth and honesty.
I apologize to Ms. Howard and to the people of Daviess County for any confusion this may have caused.
If anyone has any questions concerning this matter or any other matters regarding this election, please come to see me or call me to discuss anything.
Thank you for your time,
Sue Bird, Gallatin
