Superintendent Lisa Bielby discussed the installation of the new bells and intercom system during the regular meeting of the Winston R-6 Board of Education held Friday, Oct. 20.
McTell out of Stewartsville is doing the work and hoped to have it done early in the week, hopefully by Monday, Oct. 24.
The board reviewed the district’s summary of the Annual Performance Report (APR). The Winston R-VI School district met 13 of the 14 standards in the preliminary report. The only area the school did not meet on the MAP test was grades three through five communication arts.
Redbird Run is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 11, starting at 9 a.m. This is a 5K competitive run/non-competitive walk with participants from the local community. Registration cost is $15 until Nov. 6 and $20 after Nov. 6. All participants will receive a T-shirt.
The run is being promoted by the high school principal, Mr. Covey, and proceeds will go to benefit the Winston School Improvement Fund. The 3.1 miles walk/run starts at the Winston City Park. A Kids One Mile Fun Run starts at 9:45 for children 12 and under. All finishers receive a medal. For more information call 660-749-5456 during the day and 816-632-1761 during the evenings.
Parent-Teacher Conferences are scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 26, from 2-6 p.m. in the gym. School will also be dismissed on Tuesday, Oct. 24 at 1:15.
Four members of FFA will be attending the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis from October 24-27.
The board moved to allow Lisa Bielby to enter into a contract on behalf of the school district concerning the selling of the airwaves.
During administrative reports, Mrs. Bielby discussed the repair of the school van. Elementary Principal, Philip Pohren reported on results of elementary fund-raiser and students of the month. Attendance rate is 17 preschool, 96 K-6, with an attendance rate of 96.58%. Secondary Principal Jeremy Covey reported an enrollment of 82 with attendance rate of 95.54% for September.
The next regular school board meeting is scheduled for Nov. 16, 2006.
