The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) has announced that the work on Interstate 35, which began in the spring of this year, has been finished and all lanes are completely open to traffic.
This project was originally awarded to APAC, Kansas and consisted of pavement repair, concrete overlay and bridge rehabilitation on all lanes of Interstate 35 from south of the Route 69 interchange to the Route C interchange near Pattonsburg. The total length of the improvement was 9.7 miles, and the total cost was $19,871,800.94. Work began on Thursday, April 13, 2006, and was completed on Oct. 13, two months ahead of the Dec. 15 deadline.
Improvements include:
-Increasing the width of each lane from 12 feet to 14 feet.
-Incorporation of rumble strips on the outside edges of the pavement.
-Resurfacing of Route C and Route 69 because of deterioration due to the increased traffic during the bypass operation.
-Installation of 3M tape on the centerline (still to come). This tape will be three times more reflective than the usual striping material and have a longer life span. It is the first time the new 3M tape will be used on I-35.
-Over 85,000 cubic yards of concrete were used during the construction.
-All stone came from local quarries near Pattonsburg.
"Except for a couple of small sections, all of I-35 from Bethany south to I-435 has been resurfaced," said MoDOT’s Senior Construction Inspector Russ Love. "The public should definitely see the results of a wider, safer, smoother road."
MoDOT would like to thank the people who live and work along this corridor for their patience, especially the residents and businesses of Pattonsburg.
