Gallatin girls blast Princeton, move on to state quarterfinals on Saturday, Oct. 14
Temperatures dropped fast during Wednesday’s (Oct. 11) sectional game at Trenton, and even the scoreboard froze for several minutes. The only things "hot" were Lady Bulldog bats, as they beat out a 17-0, 3-inning victory over Princeton.
Gallatin, the visiting team, scored 10 runs in the first inning to quickly set the tone against the underdog Lady Tigers. The Lady Bulldogs added five more runs in the second frame and plated two more in the third.
Strange, who hit safely and scored in all three trips to the plate, accounted for eight total bases with a home run and pair of doubles. She drove in five runs, including four in the first inning.
Dixon had a double, single, walk, three runs scored and drove in three runs. Strein singled and drove in a pair. Chadwick doubled, singled twice and plated a run.
Dixon struck out six and allowed a pair of hits in three innings. Princeton advanced a runner to third base in the first inning, but Strein threw her out at the plate from short rightfield.
Gallatin, 15-2, will play Jefferson, 19-4, at Chillicothe’s Danner Park at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 14. The winner advances to the MSHSAA State Softball Championships held in Columbia, Oct. 20-21.
