Due to information given by Mr. Quick, the trooper asked for and received permission to search the vehicle. The Troop H Criminal Interdiction Team also responded to assist after receiving a call from the trooper at the scene.
The vehicle search revealed a plastic bag of white powder, a small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
As the trooper attempted to place the subject under arrest, he grabbed the plastic bag and pushed the trooper out into the traffic lane of I-35. This gave him an opportunity to swallow the plastic bag.
A struggled then ensued with one of the Criminal Interdiction Team members, as the subject refused to comply with the trooper’s commands. During this struggle, the other interdiction officer released his assigned Patrol canine “Cijo,” who bit the subject on the upper thigh.
Mr. Quick then stopped resisting and was placed under arrest. He was then taken to the Cameron Medical Center where he refused treatment. He is currently being held at the Daviess/DeKalb County Regional Jail.
Quick was arrested for numerous registration violations, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, assault on a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest and property damage.
The charges for which the individual has been arrested are mere accusations and are not evidence of guilt. Evidence in support of the charges must be presented before a court of competent jurisdiction whose duty is to determine guilt or innocence.
