Interment and military rites for Phillip Baker were held at 1 p.m. today (Wednesday) at the Missouri Veteran’s Cemetery in Springfield. Memorials may be made to the Warsaw Senior Center in care of the funeral home.

Phillip M. Baker, 61, Warsaw, died Saturday, Sept. 30, 2006, at the Harry S. Truman Veteran’s Administration Hospital in Columbia.

He was born in San Francisco, Calif., on June 29, 1945, the son of Clyde Clinton and Bernice Elizabeth Plum Baker. After graduating from high school he enlisted in the Air Force service overseas as a veteran of the Vietnam War. He received an honorable discharge from the military on Sept. 6, 1968. He had recently made his home in Gallatin, until moving to Warsaw a few months ago.

Mr. Baker had served as a Christian evangelist working in 40 states until retiring in 1995 due to a heart condition.

He was preceded in death by his first child, an infant son, named Robert Joshua Baker, one brother, Preston Baker, and a sister, Paula Baker.

Survivors include his companion, Dorothy "Dot" Kerns of Warsaw; one son, Joel Matthew Baker of Shelburne, Ind.; one daughter, Jewell Seprodi of Sullivan, Ind.; three brothers, Clinton Baker of Bull Shoals, Jimmy Baker of Pueblo, Colo., and Paul Baker of the state of California; two sisters, Penny Frey of San Francisco, Calif., and Pamela Baker of the state of California; and 10 grandchildren.
