This week many students from all across Northwest Missouri will have had the opportunity to meet a National FFA Officer. Erica Der, the Southern Region Vice President, was in Gallatin Monday night for a BBQ and informal question and answer session.

Chapter officers from the Gallatin, Winston, North Daviess, Trenton, and Pattonsburg FFA chapters were all invited to attend this impromptu visit. Local members that attended were Kate Hangley, Alyssa Lambert, Justin Nalle, and Mike Foster. Ms. Der talked to the officers from each chapter about their individual involvement in the FFA, activities that each chapter participates in, and about her role as a National FFA Officer.

Watermelon Bust a huge success

FFA members and guest joined together for the fourth annual FFA Watermelon Bust on Sept 20. The meeting was called to order by chapter president, Kate Hangley. Reports were given by the chapter treasurer, Justin Nalle, chapter reporter Kayla Guzan, and secretary, Alyssa Lambert showed a power point presentation of all members.

Afterwards all members were asked to introduce themselves and any guest they brought with them, which provided a new experience in public speaking for many first time FFA members. There were 25 members and 25 guests present.

Following the meeting members and guests enjoyed refreshments provided by the local FCCLA Chapter and watermelon, which was provided by Matt and Dana Cameron. Matt Woodring won the largest watermelon contest with a 110 pound entry. Kayla Hicks won the seed spitting contest.

Chapter fruit sales begin

Members of the Pattonsburg FFA Chapter kicked off the start of FFA Fruit Sales on Sept. 27 by meeting with a representative of the Four Seasons Fruit Sales Company. Members will be using three brochures again this year that include; fruit, cheese, meat, and candy. Fruit sales will run until the end of October and products will arrive sometime in early December.

Each member has set personal goals for his or herself. The chapter officer team set a goal that each member sell a minimum of $200 worth of merchandise. With such high goals set for themselves and the chapter members, they will be eagerly trying to out sell each other. If you are interested in helping a FFA member reach his or her goal or if you just want some tasty food please contact any member or the local agriculture instructor.
