Our appreciation and gratitude goes out to all those unsung heroes who work so hard coordinating and working long hours to make our festival happen.

I look forward to this weekend, getting to see old friends that will come to at least one of the activities, seeing new babies, and the sparkle in our youth’s eyes <197> just because there’s finally something to do in town!

One of the new events for this year’s Chautauqua is the Mayor’s Poker Run on Saturday, Sept. 16, starting at 1:30, but registration opens at 12:30 at the Fine Arts tent on the courthouse lawn. This is open to anyone and any kind of vehicle. It will be a fun ride and stays in Daviess County. There is a $5 charge per hand and you can play as many hands as you like. I’m hopeful that we will have large turnout for this fun event. The best poker hand receives half of the pot and the other half will be donated to the Gallatin Senior Center, which is always thankful for generous donations. It is good clean fun, so if the weather is good, get your motorcycle out, car or truck and call all your friends, so that we can all make this a successful event. You should be back to Gallatin in plenty of time to watch the parade or participate in it.

Hope to see you at Chautauqua. It will be a great family fun weekend, and please take the time to thank those who make it all happen!

Until next time…

Barb Balew, Mayor
