Mayor Ballew discussed candidates interested in the east ward aldermen position with the Gallatin Board of Aldermen during their regular meeting held Monday, Sept. 11.

No one has been selected to fill the position at this time which became vacated after the resignation of Kenneth King earlier this month. The board will make recommendations to the mayor and the mayor will appoint someone.

Police Chief Mark Richards reported on activity from 8/28/2006 to 9/11/2006. Reports Taken/Tickets Given: 5-Speeding; 1-Stealing; 4-No Insurance; 2 – Nuisance Violation; 1-No Drivers License; 1 – Curfew Violation; 1-Assault; 1 – Careless Driving; 3-Fail to Register a Motor Vehicle; 1-Possession of a Controlled Substance; 1-Ex-Parte Violation. There are six dogs in the pound

Police Chief Richards gave an update on the codes enforcement. Also the "Buckle Up" signs have been placed at the exits of the schools to remind people to buckle their seat belts.

Chief Richards gave an update on the child safety seat program that was launched a few months ago. Mr. Tadlock, State Farm Insurance agent, donated funds to purchase several booster seats for the program.

Bills in the amount of $179,636.62 were approved for payment.

Jeff Donovan with Lawing Financial Group and Sandy Ward with American Family Insurance presented separate retirement plans to be considered for the city employees.

Discussion and review was held on the August financial statement and wholesale electric costs.

City Administrator Johnson has been approached about the brush in the cemeteries. Mike Walker will be removing the brush, as it is part of his mowing agreement.

Mr. Johnson commented on the city participating in a youth employment program through Green Hills. He will present more information on the program at a later time.

City Administrator Johnson stated that the city employees will be getting ready for Chautauqua this week by hanging banners, cleaning porta-potties and sweeping the square.

Bob Snidow inquired about the water plant and the need to process more water. City Administrator Johnson stated that the city workers should start the repairs to the water plant soon.

Mayor Ballew inquired about the Chautauqua parade and would like to see an open house at the power plant and water plant in the future for the community.

Public comments were made about the newly paved streets.

The board enter into closed session pursuant to discuss legal actions and litigation.
