Three new teachers and a new elementary secretary will be welcomed to Gallatin R-5, which begins school on Thursday, Aug. 24.

Michelle Johnston will teach fourth grade. Mrs. Johnston was born and raised in Trenton where she graduated from high school. She received her B.S. degree in elementary education from Missouri Western State University. She previously taught at Laredo, Pleasant View R-6 and S.M. Rissler, both at Trenton. She and her husband, Joe, a highway patrolman, have two children, Ethan 7, and Koleby, 4.

Agriculture will be taught by Jamie Rogers who was born in raised in Strafford and graduated from high school there. She received her degree in agriculture education from Missouri State University at Springfield. She previously taught at Clever in southwest Missouri. Her husband, Steven, is an ag teacher at Trenton High School.

North Daviess began school today (Wednesday), Aug. 23, with four new teachers on staff.

Justin Ganser

Science will be taught by Jim Cool. Mr. Cool was born and raised in southern Iowa. He graduated from high school at Lineville. Mr. Cool majored in biology and received his B.A. degree in education from Kirksville. He has been involved in teaching for 38 years at Ellston, Iowa, Mt. Ayer, Iowa, Mormon Trail, Iowa, Leon, Iowa, Centerville, Iowa, Milan, and Lineville Clio, Iowa. He and his wife, Betty, who is retired, have four grown children, Kevin, Kent, Tim and Tina.

Preschool and Title I will be taught by Aimee Kokesh. Mrs. Kokesh was born and raised in Chariton, Iowa. She graduated from high school at Chariton Community. She received her degree in elementary education from Buena Vista University. She student taught at Van Allen Elementary in Chariton, Iowa, and Lucas Elementary in Lucas, Iowa. She previously taught at Lineville, Iowa, Mercer and Spickard. Her husband, Richard, is a rural mail carrier out of the Princeton Post Office.

Winston R-6 began school today, Wednesday, Aug. 23, with six new teachers and two new principals.

Tim Morrison

K-12 music instructor will be Ann Wood. Mrs. Wood was born and raised in Indianapolis, Ind. She graduated from high school at Martinsville. She received her bachelor of music education from the University of South Carolina. Mrs. Wood previously taught at Columbia, S.C., Greenville, S.C.,and Charlotte, N.C. Her husband, Bryan, is in sales. They have two children, Ross, 16, and Terrill, 14.

Elementary principal will be Philip Pohren. Mr. Pohren was born and raised in Red Oak, Iowa. He graduated from Red Oak Community High School. He received his degree in elementary education at the University of Iowa and in educational leadership at Northwest Missouri State University at Maryville. Mr. Pohren has taught at North Kansas City School and Fayette County, Ga., schools. His wife Erin stays at home with their three-year-old, Ella, and is anticipating twins in November or December.

Special education will be taught by Tracy Clark. Ms. Clark was born and raised in Winston where she graduated from high school. She received her degree in special education at Northwest Missouri State University, finishing at Graceland University. She student taught at Winston.

will teach fifth grade. Born and raised in Bethany, Mrs. Marshall graduated from South Harrison at Bethany. She received her degree in elementary education from Graceland University. She previously taught in Morgan County. Her husband, Scott, is a massage therapist.will be teaching fourth grade. Mrs. Gannan was raised in Gallatin and the Lake Viking area. She graduated from Gallatin High School. She received her degree in elementary education from North Central Missouri College and is finishing at Graceland University. She student taught at Winston. Her husband, Kyle, works at Jack’s Muffler and Tire in Gallatin as a mechanic. will be the high school principal. Mr. Covey was born and raised in Decatur, Ill. He graduated high school in Illinois at Warrensburg-Lathann. He received his undergraduate degree in K-12 physical education at Wayne State College and his master’s at William Woods University. He previously taught K-12 P.E. at Stewartsville. He and his wife, Rachael, have two children, Braden, 4, and Clayton, six months. Rachael teaches at Maysville. will teach junior high English and history and high school Spanish. Ms. Burge was raised in Gallatin and graduated from its high school. She received her degree in English language/literature from the University of Missouri at Kansas City. will teach art. Mr. Morrison was born and raised in St. Louis and graduated from high school at McCluer. He received his degree in fine art from Washington University. Mr. Morrison previously taught at St. Louis and St. Joseph. His wife, Charlotte Grider also teaches.will teach first and second grade. Born in Galt, she graduated from Grundy R-5 high school. She received her degree in elementary education from Graceland University. Ms. Berry student taught at Breckenridge. will teach health and physical education. Mr. Ganser was born in Norfolk, Va., and raised in Holdrege, Neb., where he graduated from high school. He received his degree in physical education from the University of Nebraska at Kearney. Mr. Ganser is working through an alternate certificate program, in which he teaches school full time and attends college classes one night a week. His wife, Traci, is a speech pathologist and works at senior care centers. will be elementary secretary at Searcy. Born and raised in Mirabile, she graduated from high school at Polo. Mrs. Maxwell received her degree in family and environmental resources from Northwest Missouri State University at Maryville. She was previously secretary for the Gallatin First Christian Church from 2004-2006. Before that Mrs. Maxwell worked as a social service worker in Ray County, from 1994-1999, and became a stay at home mom for five years, between 1999-2004. Her husband, David, has worked for 12 years at Premium Standard Farms as a farm manager. They have two children, Bailey, a third grader, 8, and Kelsey, in kindergarten, 5. will teach high school special education. Mr. Fairchild was born and raised in Chillicothe where he graduated from high school. He received his degree in secondary education from the University of Missouri at Kansas City. He previously taught at Monroe City.
