Dear Editor:

The American Cancer Society Relay For Life is a life-changing event that brings our community together in the fight against cancer. The cancer survivors, caregivers, family and friends who participate here are joined by hundreds of thousands more across the country.

The committed volunteers that plan the Relay For Life of Daviess County are grateful for the consistent support of the team captains, supporters, community groups and local sponsors that make it all happen.

This year, in particular, we thank Windstream Communications for sponsoring the Wall of Hope. At the conclusion of local Relay For Life events, 5,000 Wall of Hope banners will make their way to our nation’s capital for Celebration on the Hill 2006, an event that will show our country’s lawmakers how the American Cancer Society is waging the fight against cancer in communities nationwide. On Sept. 19-20, in Washington, D.C. the banners will be compiled into one Wall of Hope monument on the National Mall, demonstrating the unity of the entire country in support of cancer survivors and their families.

There will be numerous opportunities to sign the Wall of Hope in Daviess County from now until our event on Aug. 18 on the square in Gallatin. For more information contact us at 663-3645 for locations to sign the banner or information about event. To contact your local American Cancer Society call 1-800-ACS-2345 or visit www.cancer.org/relay.

Sincerely,

Paul and Terry Pierce
