The 14th annual Farmers’ Electric Area Youth Benefit Fund (AYBF) dinner-auction and golf tournament will be held Aug. 13-14, respectively, in Chillicothe.
Farmers Electric founded the AYBF in 1993 for the purpose of providing financial assistance toward the payment of medical bills for children 18 years of age and under. The fund is designed to assist families with children who have been ill or injured in which the parents do not have enough money or health insurance to cover the medical expenses.
"As we head into our next fund raising events, the AYBF has distributed just over $340,000 to families in this area," said Mike Sanders, chief executive officer of FEC. "We expect to net around $35,000 again this year from the dinner-auction and the golf tournament."
The AYBF operates primarily in the counties of Daviess, Linn, Chariton, Livingston, Carroll, Ray, Caldwell, DeKalb and Clinton. A family that resides in the counties listed above does not have to be a member of the cooperative to receive financial assistance, but they have to live within the outer boundaries of FEC’s service territory.
The dinner-auction will be held at the Chillicothe Elks Lodge and include a number of silent auctions, as well as a main auction under the call of Col. Lonnie Sewell. The reception begins at 5 p.m., followed by dinner at 6:30 and the main auction will begin around 7:40.
Items on the main auction will include Waterford crystal, limited edition art prints, antiques, thousands of dollars in gift certificates, jewelry, collector’s sports memorabilia and much, much more.
Banquet tickets remain the same at $25. Pork loin for the meal is being donated by Premium Standard Farms.
The golf tournament on Aug. 14 will again be held at the Green Hills Golf Course in Chillicothe. For the eighth consecutive year Pepsi-Cola Bottling of Chillicothe is co-sponsoring. The tournament, which has sold out three of the last four years, is a three-person scramble with prizes on every hole, including a $10,000 hole-in-one prize. Prizes are presented to the top three winners in each flight.
Each player taking part in the tourney this year will receive a free pair of Footjoy golf shoes, plus a Gear For Sports golf shirt, as well as other items when they register.
Morning tee time is 7:30 a.m. while the afternoon tee time is 1:30 p.m. Lunch is being catered by Hy-Vee Food Store of Chillicothe.
"By the second week of July we had about 65% of the tournament sold out, so if you are interested in playing this year, please make your arrangements as soon as possible," said Sanders.
