Funeral services for Verna McNeely will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at McWilliams Funeral Home in Gallatin. Visitation is one hour prior to the service. Verna Maxine McNeely, 88, Trenton, formerly of Jamesport and Jameson, died Sunday, July 9, 2006 at the Eastview Care Center, Trenton.
Mrs. McNeely was born Dec. 21, 1917, to Vern and Ella B. (Eskridge) Cox on a farm near Jamesport in rural Daviess County. She graduated from Jamesport High School in 1935.
She was united in marriage to Thomas A. McNeely on Sept. 2, 1939, in Gallatin. He died in April of 1997.
The couple made their home in Trenton for a short period of time before moving to the family home place south of Gilman City in 1943, where they farmed. They later moved to the Jamesport and Jameson areas where they continued to farm until retiring in 1970.
After retiring they moved back to town in Jamesport.
Mrs. McNeely was baptized at an early age and was a faithful member of the Old Scotland Church of Christ.
She was also preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Addie French and Mattie Treon.
Survivors: two sons, Ron McNeely, Gallatin, and Gary McNeely, Jameson; daughter, Lynda Hancock, Trenton; 10 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.
