Gallatin High School sent five students to represent the state of Missouri at the Future Business Leaders of America-Phi Beta Lambda National Leadership Conference in Nashville, Tenn., June 29-July 2.

Students competing were Jonathan Arnold – Parliamentary Procedure, Phillip Arnold – Introduction to Parliamentary Procedure, Whitney Boyd – Accounting I, Katie Patton – Parliamentary Procedure, and Hattie Rains – Public Speaking II. FBLA members competed against other students from across the United States, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, Bermuda, Guam, the Cayman Islands, and the Department of Defense Schools worldwide.

Katie Patton served as the state chair and Jonathan Arnold served as the state vice-president of the Missouri Parliamentary Procedure team, which placed 5th in the nation! Hattie Rains had the opportunity to give her speech twice at nationals. Hattie first gave her speech on June 30 for preliminaries and again on July 1 for finals. Hattie placed 6th in the nation in Public Speaking II.

The competition was part of a competitive events program sponsored annually by FBLA-PBL, a professional association for students pursuing business careers. Individuals, local chapters, and state teams competed in over 40 events representing a range of business, career, and leadership development activities. The winners of these challenging and prestigious awards are selected from FBLA-PBL’s 225,000 members. The 6,000 delegates to the 54th annual conference elected national student officers and attended business and leadership workshops in addition to competing in business and career skill events. This year’s national theme, "FBLA-PBL: Unlock Your Potential!" reflects the goals of FBLA-PBL members, some of the best and brightest of today’s young people.

While in Nashville, Gallatin students visited Nashville Shores, took a dinner cruise on the General Jackson showboat, and attended the Saturday night show at the Grand Ole Opry. FBLA members were accompanied to Nashville by chapter adviser Barb Holcomb and Julie Rains.
