The Daviess County Genealogical Society [DCGS] has a permanent home. Located in the old sheriff’s home of the Squirrel Cage Jail in Gallatin, the Society will be located in the upstairs, taking over two of the three rooms. Family History resources will be available for researchers to use on the premises and will not be allowed to be checked out. Research materials will eventually include all the census from 1830 to the most recent available year of 1930; cemetery listings with tombstone pictures; early marriage listings; the Daviess County History Books of 1882 and 1922 and other History Books; Obituary books and old newspapers, as well as other information on cds and books. The plans are for the renovation of the painting to be completed by the July 22 meeting. The goal is to have the rooms open to the public researchers with the minimum of each Saturday during the spring and summer months. DCGS has over 45 members nationwide and is a new entity, formed in June 2005. Donations of a small air conditioner, a computer and printer, and other items are needed. If you would like to become a part of this exciting time in the county’s history by becoming a member, need help in your own family research or have donations, contact the President, Lanita Sconce Smith, at 660-684-6174 or email at [email protected].
