Local members attend Missouri Public Speaking Academy
Recently, three members of the Pattonsburg FFA Chapter attended the Missouri FFA Public Speaking Academy at Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg. Alyssa Lambert, Mariah Wood, and Tiffany deJong attended the academy June 13-15, and over the course of three days experienced intense sessions on how to become a better public speaker. Members spoke on a variety of topics such as eminent domain, agro terrorism, and cattle rustling, and learned how to research, prepare, and deliver a quality speech. The three members worked with a variety of public speakers ranging from current state FFA officers, past state officers, advisors, and CMSU staff. FFA member Mariah Wood qualified for the semi-finals in the beginner’s section of the conference.
Members met fellow FFA members and learned how to improve their skills as public speakers, a skill which will last them all a life time.
Hangley attends 2006 Missouri Agribusiness Academy
The week of June 12-16 was a busy one for local FFA member and chapter president, Kate Hangley. Ms. Hangley was one of thirty FFA and 4-H members to attend the Missouri Agribusiness Academy held in St. Louis, and sponsored by the Missouri Department of Agriculture. The week began with registration in Jefferson City and traveling to St. Louis where speakers from the Agriculture Future of America made a presentation. Throughout the week academy members traveled to a variety of agriculture businesses such as Agritalk, Monsanto, Osborn and Barr, Mid States Dairy, and many more. Academy members also heard several presentations from different agriculture leaders about the strength and importance of Missouri Agriculture and Missouri Agribusinesses. The academy ended on Friday with a commencement ceremony at the State Capital Rotunda; where Missouri Department of Agriculture director Fred Ferrell presented members with gifts for their attendance in the academy.
