Several nurses were recently recognized in the North Kansas City Hospital Times for achieving national certification in hospice and palliative care. Jean Gibson, R.N., from Gallatin, is one of those nurses. Jean is the daughter of the late John and Edna Wilson of Altamont, and wife of Robert Gibson of Gallatin. She is the education coordinator for NorthCare Hospice and Palliative Care, an affiliate of North Kansas City Hospital.
Certification is obtained by study of end of life care for patients who are suffering life limiting illnesses. This includes health, social, spiritual and psychological issues which can impact the end of life. There are currently 152 certified hospice and palliative care nurses in the state of Missouri.
