An Altamont couple, Roger and Deanna Roedel, was arrested June 23 on multiple misdemeanor charges in connection with a domestic incident. Roedel had threatened a neighbor, Melvin Turner, Jr., around 10 p.m. at 103 Court Drive. At approximately the same time Deanna Roedel allegedly assaulted another neighbor, Crystal Lamm, at 101 Court Drive.

Law enforcement officers arrived at the Roedels’ residence, 109 Court Drive, at approximately 10:30 p.m., as the couple had returned home. Roger Roedel struggled with Deputy Watson and Reserve Deputy Bridgeman as he attempted to keep the officers from entering the house. Roedel appeared intoxicated and made threats against his neighbors and against law enforcement officers, specifically the sheriff and his deputies, Highway Patrol officers, and members of the KAW Fire Protection District. During the struggle, Deanna Roedel attempted to help her husband and refused to leave until Sheriff Heldenbrand took her into custody.

Three children were taken into protective custody, and drug paraphernalia was discovered in the home.

Roger Roedel, 44, was also arrested on a class D felony charge of property damage first degree in connection with an incident at Bing’s Convenience Store on June 15 in which Roedel is accused of breaking the customer display off of the cash register, with damage estimated at $980.

He was charged with assault of a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest, and possession of paraphernalia, all class A misdemeanors, and peace disturbance, class B misdemeanor, in connection with the June 23 incident. He is being held at Daviess-DeKalb Regional Jail on $12,500 bond.

Deanna Roedel, 35, has been charged with class A misdemeanor charges of peace disturbance, interfering with arrest, resisting arrest, possession of paraphernalia, and assault in the third degree. She posted $2,000 bond plus $250 bond on each of two outstanding warrants in Clay County and the City of Cameron.

J. Refugio De La Torre, 38, and Jamie De La Torre, 24, both of Houston, Texas, were arrested June 26 in a traffic stop on I-35 and charged with possession of a controlled substance, class B felony. They are being held at Daviess-DeKalb Regional jail on $50,000 bond each.

Gabriel Bandstra, 19, Monroe, Iowa, was arrested June 21 for felony possession of a controlled substance. He posted $35,000 bond.

Shawn Greene, 18, Prairie City, Iowa, was arrested June 21 for felony possession of a controlled substance and posted $15,000 bond.

Jontae C. Nicols, 22, Kansas City, was charged June 27 with failure to appear on misdemeanor charges of possession of marijuana and paraphernalia. He is being held on $1,500 bond.

Cary Cohen, 45, Des Plains, Ill., was charged with misdemeanor possession of marijuana and paraphernalia on June 20. He posted $750 bond.

Erik Smith, 32, Buffalo Grove, Ill., and Daniel Schmeizer, 22, Schaumburg, Ill., were each charged June 20 with misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. They posted $250 bond each.

Donald P. Winterbower, 39, Maysville, was arrested June 23 on a DeKalb county warrant for passing bad checks, misdemeanor. He posted $212.31 bond.

Moriah Strein, 26, Altamont, was charged June 24 for failure to appear on a St. Joseph Police Department warrant for misdemeanor driving while suspended. He posted $200 bond.
