The Daviess County 4-H Achievement Day will be held on Wednesday, July 5, at the courthouse. Members are to check-in exhibits from 5-7 p.m. Exhibits will be judged that evening and will be on display on the first floor of the courthouse for the public to see on Thursday, July 6, and Friday, July 7. The 4-H Achievement Day is being held in conjunction with the annual Daviess County Jr. Livestock Show at Dockery Park on July 6-7-8.
The Invitational 4-H and FFA Livestock Show is open to all 4-H and FFA members living in any county in Missouri and enrolled in respective livestock projects, or belonging to 4-H Clubs or FFA Chapters. Points will be earned in conjunction with the Invitational Show to Daviess County only FFA and 4-H members.
Brad Tummons is the general superintendent of the show. Chuck Weldon will head the junior rodeo scheduled for Friday, July 7, at 3 p.m. The rodeo is sponsored by the Gallatin Men’s Club. Alicia Chrisman is in charge of concessions and is also the fair board president.
Last year 109 exhibitors showed 452 animals. There were 50 head of cattle, 107 head of sheep, 91 head of goats, 34 rabbits, 25 poultry and waterfowl, 23 horses and 122 head of swine. Concessions will be open daily serving grilled pork burgers, hamburgers and hotdogs.
On Saturday, July 8, everyone is invited to enjoy a BBQ pork meal served from 5-7 p.m. during the swine show. You will have the choice of BBQ pork sandwich, chips and a drink for $2.50 or you can enjoy a meal of BBQ pork, baked beans, potato salad and drink for $5. Admission to the livestock show is free.
